I'm joining Elizabeth again to share what I've been sewing and reading this week and can I just say that I did it! First off I finished the baby blanket I started last week. I even made my own binding for it.....that was a real learning process but I think it was good practice for me. It has a lot of flaws but I really don't think the baby cares!



And then yesterday I actually made pants that Hannah Grace can wear!! Yes I really did it! The main reason I decided to start sewing was so I could make the big but baby pants......having a baby in cloth diapers makes it hard to find pants that fit good.....they are always tight.




You guys that have been sewing a while probably think ......no big deal......but what a great feeling to know I  "can" do this!! I also made the headband with leftover elastic and fabric. She looks so cute it in! I found that cute top at Target and the colors matched perfect! I can't wait to make another pair!

Sorry for the overload of pics but this was just so neat.....that they actually turned out.....that they actually look good on her.....I am just beyond excited!!

And so now I can see myself making some other things.......hmmmm.....another trip to the fabric store is in order I think!! Happy sewing!!

Oh and on the reading side .....like I shared yesterday I'm going back over Educating the Wholehearted child by the Clarkson's to renew my focus for our homeschooling.....by far my favorite homeschooling book!

I'm joining Elizabeth again as we share what we've been sewing and reading this week. I had grand plans of finishing this lap blanket and maybe even those big but baby pants but a very sick baby has kept my arms very full instead.

 I did manage to get my new machine out......get it all threaded up and start the blanket. Can I say it was so fun to see it coming together! I think I am going to enjoy sewing as much as I enjoy knitting! Oh that could mean trouble! I used this tutorial to get started.


I have been watching videos and reading blogs on how to machine bind my little blanket. I have read enough where I think I might just be able to pull it off! We shall see!And that has been the extent of my reading for this week as I take care of little Hannah Grace.....

I am so excited about this new link up that Elizabeth Foss is doing over at In the Heart of My Home! I have followed her blog for quite some time gleaning all kinds of wonderful encouragement for homeschooling! And then I found my knitting passion and followed her to the weekly yarn along where I have met so many wonderful people and found so many amazing projects to knit! And then she turned to sewing and that was something I had not done in a long time.

Now when I was young my Mom who is an accomplished seamstress taught me to sew but I was just not into it. She also taught my daughters to sew and my oldest Emily has made everything from doll clothing, period costumes and skirts. She loves sewing and creating! After seeing some of the cutest patterns on pinterest and other sites I decided I must relearn to sew so that I can make beautiful things for this little baby of mine!

As I decided to do this our older singer machine broke down........now how was I going to sew? So this past week this arrived in the mail! (of course it has sat there all week and I have not even had a chance to look at it!) So hopefully this weekend the creating will begin with my oldest at my side to guide me!


I did get a chance to head to JoAnn's and pick up some fabric! I also picked up the Big But Baby Pants pattern! I love that these pants will fit over Hannah Grace's cloth diapered bum! I also have the sun hat pattern from this site! I also bought some minky and some flannel for a little lovie blanket......no pattern for that yet!


So no projects to share as of yet.....just dreams of some! And any tutorials or sites you can point me too as I learn this craft would be so helpful! I will only have my Emily to guide me for a couple months before she is heading to Thailand and out onto the mission field. That makes sharing this time with her so very special!!
